For me living in Jaco is perfect, it offers me everything that I need for full time living, but for other people while they may appreciate the amenities and conveniences Jaco can offer, they might seek to be somewhere on the outskirts of Jaco.

One of the best areas for those wanting to live just outside of Jaco is the Esterillos area. Esterillos is a small surfing just 20 minutes south of Jaco beach.

The beaches in Esterillos are stunning, with a light cinnamon color sand and a backdrop of lush greenery. While the Esterillos area is a bit more secluded, for some people that’s what they prefer.

You wont find much of commercial or residential development in the Esterillos area, what you will find is what I like to call the “old Costa Rica”, a more rustic feel, with more dirt roads, a couple local watering holes, and beaches that are practically all to yourself.

It’s a decision that those considering living in the Central Pacific have to face, would you rather live in Esterillos full-time and travel to Jaco once or twice a week for dining, groceries and running errands, or would you prefer to live in Jaco full time and take a couple trip to a place like Esterillos a couple times a week.
