Craig V. Witcher, Amway Vice President dismissed the idea that his company was setting up in Costa Rica because of the financial crisis but did confirm that operations would begin in April 2010, one month later their new offices in the Forum 2 executive office center in Santa Ana would be ready for them

To begin with there will be approximately 200 employees in the areas of financial, accounting and tax support and this operations center would cover the entire area from Canada all the way down to Argentina.

The final six destinations were: Monterrey, Guadalajara, México D. F., Panamá, San José y Buenos Aires. Craig Witcher said that: “We chose Costa Rica for the support given to us by the government, for the political stability, for the quality of labor, for the education and experience of other companies already established in the country.

Gabriela Llobet, the director of Coalición Costarricense de Iniciativas de Desarrollo (CINDE), did not hide her satisfaction about the arrival of this new company: “Apart from generating new jobs, a reknowned, global company like Amway allows us to show other companies, once again, that our country is a highly competitive destination to establish their operations.”

Amway is the sixth company so far in 2010 to have announced their new operations in Costa Rica, the other five are 1. WNS, 2. Teleperformance, 3. Paysource, 4. McKinsey and 5. Emerson.

According to CINDE, as of 2009, a total of 95 services companies were established in Costa Rica who employ about 28,000 people.
