Searching for a comfortable private house for rent, in the country, yet with all the conveniences of living in town? This spacious 2,500 sq.ft. (233M2) two-level home in San Roque de Grecia is for rent, a couple miles (3 km) north of the city of Grecia – voted the cleanest town in Central America.

Casa de San Roque was solidly built 14 years ago of concrete, metal, stone, brick, and lots of ceramic tile. On the lower level are 3 bedrooms – a master with private bath and 2 guest rooms, one which could be used as a live-in maid’s room, and a shared second bath with walk in shower.

The master bedroom is 109 sq.ft. (10.2M2) with painted, tiled and wood paneled walls and a huge window overlooking the tropical landscaping in the back yard. The master bath has a roomy walk in shower and lots of tile work. The other two downstairs bedrooms are 100 sq.ft (9.2M2) and 87 sq.ft (8.7M2), each with a spacious closet.

Also located on the main floor is a 155 sq.ft (14.5M2) living room, a dining nook with a handcrafted Guanacaste wood table & chairs, and a well-designed kitchen with handmade cabinets, a new electric stove and a refrigerator with ice-maker. There is a TV/family room with an enchanting stone water wall with live tropical plants, access to the laundry room, stairs leading to the second floor, and access to the garage.

The new 50 gallon hot water heater will give you lots of hot water in both baths and in the kitchen sink.

The second floor has a wonderful, open sunny office with clerestory windows and beautiful handcrafted patio doors opening onto a large, breezy patio nearly 30 feet long. The patio overlooks banana trees, heliconia, bird-of-paradise and other tropical plants in your fenced backyard below, and affords an excellent view of three volcanoes and vistas towards Escazu.

The upstairs bedroom of 125 sq.ft (11.7M2) has an array of different windows on three sides, with a great view.

Casa de San Roque sits on a hillside with wonderful countryside views of sugar cane fields and little villages, and sunrises over the Barva and Irazu volcanoes. It’s an ideal home base for living in Costa Rica – an easy 30 minute drive from the international airport in Alajuela, and about 45-50 minutes drive time from San Jose (23 miles or 37 km).

Park your vehicle in the huge, gated garage with automatic door opener, or if you’re currently car-less, the nearest bus to Grecia stops just a minute’s walk away. If you’re in a hurry, taxis are cheap. Or you can walk to town like the local Ticos do.

The backyard is secure, accessible only through the house and even includes a doghouse for a medium-sized dog. There is a roomy storage bodega (storage room) with workbench, lights and electrical outlets, great for stashing your stuff or tinkering. The ‘L’ shaped yard is about 500 sq.ft (45 meters). The laundry room, with hookups for washer & dryer is located under a covered patio beside the house.

Apart from what you see included, this home is unfurnished.

The monthly rent of US$750 includes water, trash pickup three times per week, Amnet cable TV with about 100 channels, DSL internet (with ICE), and gardener. First and last month’s rent is required, along with a deposit for pets which are subject to approval. (One person wanted to rent last year with five kids and FIVE Rottweilers!).

You would be responsible for paying the electric and telephone bills. There is one telephone line. We can recommend a good housekeeper if you need one. We prefer a year’s lease, but would consider a shorter lease.
