It was in May 2005 when we first found and recommended this excellent waterproof map of Costa Rica. Since that time, many of our VIP Members have written thanking us for finding it…

The Toucan Guides Waterproof Map of Costa Rica is simply the best map available for Costa Rica. It is a highly detailed, full color, two sided map, 39 inches by 26 1/2 inches and printed on waterproof, tear-resistant synthetic (recycled content, and recyclable) paper.

Created by Ray Krueger-Koplin, this unique Costa Rica map is up to date as of February 2008, accurate, detailed, easy to fold and includes easy to read large scale map sections of the following areas:

  1. The entire country of Costa Rica
  2. Downtown San Jose
  3. Central Valley area.
  4. Santa Elena/Monteverde
  5. Arenal/La Fortuna
  6. Tamarindo
  7. Manuel Antonio/Quepos

There are instantly recognizable symbols for special Costa Rican attractions like zip-line and hanging bridge canopy exploration, butterfly gardens, rappelling down canyons, and surf camps, as well as the more typical activities like horseback riding, SCUBA, deep sea fishing, golf, rafting and many more.

You can see at a glance what there is to do around Arenal volcano and Monteverde cloud forest, as well as along the road between them. The activity symbols on the maps are supported by unique indexes that not only provide grid coordinates (like K7), but thumbnail maps showing the location, phone numbers, and informative descriptions.

Beaches, National Parks, Wildlife Refuges, Wetlands, and more are also clearly marked on the map and indexed with grid coordinates, map thumbnails, and symbols indicating the activities and amenities you’ll find at each.

Thousands of hours of independent research, and thousands of miles traveled in Costa Rica went into choosing the 100 plus canopy adventures, hot springs, surf schools, white water outfitters, and other travel resources shown on the map. No promotional fees of any kind were accepted in exchange for being included.

A few useful English to Spanish phrases are given and you will appreciate having “What’s the best way to get there?” and “Can you please show me on the map?” at your fingertips when you need to ask for directions.

The scale used on the map is 4 centimeters = 18 kilometers (11.3 miles)

Roads are categorized and color coded according to their surfacing and driveability, grid coordinates are correlated with the actual latitude and longitude grid to facilitate use with GPS instruments, point to point distances are indicated for all the paved roadways, and since the type used is about twice as large as most other commercial maps of Costa Rica it is easy to read, you don’t have to carry a microscope.

Ray Krueger-Koplin (Colorado, USA) is the creator of this wonderful map and I had lunch with him and his lovely wife Sue again recently and it’s great to see how passionate they are about Costa Rica.

As soon as your order has been confirmed, your Toucan Guides Waterproof Map of Costa Rica will be sent to you from Colorado, USA. Please allow seven business days for delivery.
