Marc Schweitzer is originally from Manhattan, he has travelled to Costa Rica for about 15 years and eventually moved here permanently in 1996.

He lives in Escazu and says: “I love it.”

Escazu is a “pretty unique place”, it’s “quite gentrified” and “looks a whole lot more like Brentwood, California that you’d expect it to.”

Marc has originally planned to live here for six month in the year but just decided to stay and “discovered a great business opportunity which I have been pursuing ever since.”

“The biggest surprise I had in moving here was just how little I miss going home.”

In this Cost Rica video interview, Marc gives his opinions about crime in Costa Rica, the qualifications and the training of the health care professionals – dentists and surgeons – that he has encountered.

As far as Escazu real estate is concerned, he states that: “Escazu is not cheap” but “I paid about $300,000 for the apartment (in Escazu), in New York City it would be a $2,000,000 apartment.”

If my best friend back in the US asked me about moving here I would say: “Do it sooner rather than later!”

And as far as Marc is concerned, one of the secrets to living here happily is “to accept where you are…”
