In my quest to find remarkable Costa Rica beach real estate, I recently had the opportunity to spend some time over in Playa Coyote and San Miguel area on the Nicoya Peninsula and I must say, WOW!

The beaches of Costa de Oro and San Miguel are breathtaking! Costa de Oro sits between two estuaries with miles of beach and some of the most gorgeous sunsets I have seen in Costa Rica.

This area has been a well kept secret! The roads are very well maintained, actually some of the best I have seen in recent days. There are quaint little restaurants and bars on the beach and mountain side with spectacular ocean views.

Two Pounds of Fresh Shrimp – $10

You have your choice of a few small hotels directly off the beach that offer clean rooms and great prices. You can buy fresh fish from the local fisherman, which by the way, I bought a kilo, which is over two pounds, of jumbo shrimp for under 5,000 colones or $10 bucks, I couldn’t believe it and they deliver to your door!

It is the same with fruits and veggies, a truck comes by your front door and you can buy just about anything you want for a fraction of the price you would pay in the city.

Property values are still very reasonable. You can buy what is considered second row, off the beach, ocean view lots starting for as little as US$45K or with a small home for US$120K.

There are a few beachfront properties available with concessions for US$248K or without a concession for US$135K. If you are interested in larger parcels or a farm, you can find good deals with ocean views starting at US$160K

With lower prices of course comes the lack of infrastructure but a 30 to 40 minute drive you have gas stations, banks, grocery stores, hardware stores, doctors, veterinarian and just about anything else you could want or need.

For those who prefer to fly, you can access the area by local Sansa or Nature Air flights daily to and from San Jose to the Punta Islita airstrip.

So if you are looking for a little piece of paradise at a price you can afford, but thought the ship had already sailed, please contact Penny using the form below and she’ll try her best to show you that paradise does still exist in Costa Rica!

Hi, I have a 21/2 acre lot on a hill overlooking Playa Coyote that I would like to sell. Power is about 150 yds away. There is water there. It is in what was suppose to be developed into a private community. We are coming the end of January. Are you located in the area?
