You will get a better idea about truly affordable Costa Rica real estate when you see what our friend George Lundquist has accomplished in building a lovely home in the beautiful community of Puriscal.

George and his wife designed their new home in Puriscal and it makes you wonder if you could also build your own Costa Rica dream home with spectacular views, doesn’t it?

We are not talking about ‘gringo’ priced Costa Rica real estate here… The kind that the snooty real estate agents of the world will show you, there’s not enough money in it for them to show you these kinds of properties.

We’re talking about you being able to build a comfortable, well equipped home in a gorgeous, secure area of Costa Rica with simply perfect weather for about US$150K.

This is a ‘real,’ uncut Costa Rica, so if you’re looking for some glitzy, anonymous ‘Manhattan style’ condo living this area won’t be for you but, if you’re looking for a real Costa Rican community and a peaceful place to sit back, relax and enjoy your life and get to grips with your Spanish language skills, you’ve come to the right location.

And since you’re not overpaying from day one, I would imagine that the value of these properties will appreciate dramatically and when it comes to selling – it should be simple and quick… Especially if you tell me that it’s for sale 🙂

Our intrepid Costa Rica home builder George Lundquist

George Lundquist and his wife researched Costa Rica for two years on the internet and in person before moving to Costa Rica. They first moved to an area called Acosta and later moved to what he (and I) consider to be an even more desirable area – Puriscal.

Puriscal is a very scenic, secure and practically crime-free area in rural Costa Rica.

Puriscal has an area of about 553,660 square metres, was founded in 1868 and has a population of about 50,000 people. There are nine districts in the area: District 1: Santiago City, District 2: Mercedes Sur, District 3: Barbacoas, District 4: Grifo Alto, District 5: San Rafael, District 6: Candelaria, District 7: Desamparaditos, District 8: San Antonio and District 9: Chires.

The area is a very scenic, one hour drive from the centre of San Jose, only 45 minutes from the best shopping mall (and medical facilities) in Central America and one hour from the Pacific beaches and there are some spectacular views…

This is Cadillac style living on a Budweiser budget and as a professional investor myself, when I see land and property prices that would make even a rookie real estate agent’s mouth start watering, I have to take notice…

For a better idea of the geographical area that we are referring to, please look at the great map below and if you look South West of San Jose and you’ll see the town of Santiago de Puriscal – As the crow flies, if you continued straight on from San Jose past Puriscal, you would be moving towards the beach town of Jaco (pronounced ‘Hako’)
