The heavily pregnant mother was about to give birth at any moment when she walked across our garden, onto our terrace and then into our living room late on Friday night.

They really are disgusting creatures but their innate ability to survive under the most extreme conditions is impressive…

Did you know that a cockroach body can
survive without a head for up to a week?

No sh*t Sherlock!

Since I was making my Missus a ‘Hot Toddy’ at the time, after I successfully squashed Mommy Cockroach and then saw the ‘ootheca’ which she had dropped I picked it up with a paper towel, filmed it for a minute until it looked like we might be overrun and then used the water from the kettle to boil them to death.

Yeech!

Sorry the video is so small but I grabbed the first camera I could which was my wife’s Samsung telephone and shot this short video.

The ‘ootheca’ that you can see in the short video above is basically a protective case which holds many eggs. It’s a protein layer that hardens to become a protective case for eggs within. The exact number of eggs in a roach egg sac varies depending on what kind of cockroach you are dealing with.
