I have not looked too deeply into this but thought some of you might find it interesting. I do my best to avoid a GMO diet; but it ain’t easy.:(

You just made my day, Keith. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THAT!! Those of us who actually care about what we eat have been concerned that there would be no way to stop Monsatan from polluting our food supply with their GM foods as they are trying to do in India. I know a lot of people who will be jumping for joy when i post that article on my facebook page. I just watched this documentary titled Poison on the Plattor about what the GM foods have done to India — in one case, a herd of sheep ate some GM bt cotton plants and all the sheep died. not a good thing. the only way for you to avoid GM foods in your diet is to eat organic and do not eat any packaged food that is not 100% organic because if it has sugar or corn in the product, it is almost guaranteed to be gm.

Isn’t this news from 2004? 8 years ago?

yes, sadly, someone else pointed that out to me and i have just sent a flurry of emails to various organizations including the two people whose email addresses were listed to find out if this has changed with the enactment of CAFTA. sheesh.

Likely, willl change due to CAFTA/NAFTA/DAFTA,etc. CR too friendly with USA and Monsanto helps run USA. Read not long ago an article noting that US State Dept will fight against Monsantos enemies…..a country too anti-GMO might have a “regime change” and a “spring” with GMO plants blooming…..

    I sent out one, too!

An American ‘acquaintance’ contacted the company last year and asked them if it was possible to get GM corn seed here and they replied, “no”.

oh please, please please let that still be true. i must have known about that back in 2004 and most likely it influenced my decision to live here, because that was one of the main reasons i wanted out of the gulag — the proliferation of gm foods for general consumption. Remember how many people got sick over Star Link corn?? i am now about to call the OCA and see why it’s taken them longer than 5 minutes to answer my email. jejeje

CR would be under a lot of pressure to accept those crappy GMO laden seeds. I know this would make “Lewis” angry, but Monsanto has deep pockets to buy/trade influence and have a lot of friends in US govt…Monsanto has been caught allying with Black water types, no telling what US govt will/have done on their behalf…..
Oops, there I go 😆 again, daring on an international site to say negative things 😯 about my country and 🙄 thinking again and, terror 😯 doing the research….
Side note, was talking to a woman about weight loss, she is on diet and asked me what I was doing. SHe actually said she likes all the additives and GMO’s,etc-aid it gave her food taste. Sums up too many in the US.
Noted to her-good luck with that weight loss then (I put it much nicer of course, as I am a nice fellow with most people).
Noted to her that that crappy food, food is lightly used term, has no taste for me these days…….I actually cheated a yr or so agao and ate a Big Mac, made me feel sick…..
Got a nice Organic salad today for lunch and had Organic oatmeal earlier…good stuff……feeling better and healthier….

the fact that she has to go on a diet says it all. she is the person they are marketing this garbage to.

i am now on a fact-finding mission because the infiltration of gm foods into mainstream markets will be a very bad idea and will cause untold and as yet to be determined health problems for everyone. Arias vende patria as the grafitti says.

what does that mean to the average Tico when used?

true enough, for me, I change my eating habits and preferances-no Jenny Craig, Wight Watchers or other gimics…..
I cheat more now, admittedly, then 2 yrs ago when I started, but key for men is to keep calories under 1800, unless your everyday lifestyle is intense physical……for me, got ot gym 2x week, plus any home/yard work a plus and eat smarter.

I am going to be 41 this May and have, at my peak, lost 62 lbs and no more gout, IBS,etc……much more energy and clarity, better moods too (was angrier and moodier prior).
Feel and look better, which translates to better attitude, self confidence….

Not bragging at all, just saying, it can be done and I tried all sort of diets, never worked……

I try to eat organic as much as possible….

Use probiotics too…..and Vitamin D, lots of good food w/nutrients (normally, sucked out of most corporate foods).

By nature, I am a Phlegmatic, so, really, hate to work out-but like the energy and stamina I get…..was good whe nI was in Europe this past fall…..I was not sore, nor huph/puff either…….

Arias vende patria = Arias sold his country! and indeed he did as his parting act before leaving office. there were demonstrations galore over this. there was grafitti everywhere that was very anti-Arias, anti-Bush, and anti corporate influence. there is still some grafitti (the Arisas vende patria line) that has not been painted over, as well as this one — Arias no es mi presidente — Arias is NOT my president. and i think this one is still up, too: Arias es la puta de Bush — Arias is Bush’s whore.

gout and ibs at 40? you got some work to do or by the time you are 60 you will be popping a handful of pills and making Big Pharma even richer!

I have heard that about Arias, yet another US puppet…..a lot of them get this way through buiz or going to elite US schools. Chincilla seems a bit of improvement, from what I can gather, granted, mainly through English publications.

No, IBS is mainly gone now, soo too gout….no more pills for either….doing a cleanse right now that is interesting, to say the least…..

That and pictures of me, convinved me to lose the weight…I was around 245 lbs on a 5’7″ frame and could not step out of car and walk at that point without pain in feet and popping gout pills. Now, I get out and can sprint most of the time…Sometimes, I forget how fast I walk…..

No, much better now, weight around 185-190, was down to 179-183 in Sept…varies a bit….

Most of issues are gone I was having besides the IBS/gout….

at 60, would love to be as active..one of reason considering a move prior to then……more healthy location….Nicoya Peninsula is top on list or somewhere nearby (Pacific S,etc)….or Ecuador.Malta nice, but expensive to buy property if not Maltese……

No, much better now….I no longer sit and watch Bigest Loser at 245lbs with bowl of ice cream, like I used to….

Got tired of achy, clothes not feeling/fitting right and looking/feeling tired……

As long as the Discussion is genuinely related to Costa Rica – as I believe this is – it’s fine by me…

Let’s always try to keep on track with regards to how these various things affect us in Costa Rica and not go off on a tangent into American polydicks – Ooops! Sorry I meant politics…
