It’s amazing that Guanacaste can have so many different things to see and do. Our business is actually comprised of three businesses: Real Estate, Rentals and Tours.

Our new concierge director had never been to Hacienda Guachipelin Tour at the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. I found out many of my employees had never been either, so I insisted we close down the office for a day and go and have some fun! This way everyone can intelligently talk about what the tours are like and if they are truly a ‘must-do-activity’.

We drove a short 1 hour 20 minutes to the Hacienda Guachipelin Lodge which is located near the base of the Rincon de la Vieja volcano. We checked in with the staff and were ready for our adventure.

I believe this tour is a ‘must-do’ in Guanacaste. It’s great value and a lot of fun and is often the highlight of many people’s vacation.

Here’s what the Day Pass will get you:

  1. Canyon Tour: We did some rock climbing as well as an amazing canopy tour over the river rapids. To top things off, we got to swing like Tarzan and do a rappel in the canyon. We did have a lot of help (I would refer to the rock climb as full-service, but you have to have decent strength to do this part). You can opt out of the rappel as well as the tarzan swing if you want.
  2. Rio Negro White Water Tubing Class III & IV: This is the highlight of the day in my opinion. Between the rapids and mini-waterfall drops, this is truly a blast! I recommend, if possible, to do this tour in the rainy season (the water levels are higher in the river, which makes for more exciting rapids). However, I have done this trip in dry season and it’s still worth doing.

  4. Horseback Riding: We took about a 40 minute horseback riding trip to the river. The horses are used to taking this trip to the river through the national park. You get to see lots of flora and fauna and critters along the way.
  5. Rio Negro Hot Springs: This is the best part because you end your day at the Rio Negro Hot Springs. Water from the volcano is pumped into natural stone pools at over 100 degrees. The minerals in the thermal springs have healing powers and relax the mind, body and soul. There is also an area to paint yourself with volcanic mud (good for your skin). There is also a bar, changing room, and massage therapy offered – Pura vida!

Everyone truly enjoyed themselves and we would 100% recommend and partake in this day trip again and again. Make sure that you put this on your to-do list when your plans bring you to Guanacaste.
