We have nearly completed another year of ongoing dental miracles in Dr. Mario’s new, multi-million, state-of the-art dental facility located in Escazu, the business and entertainment hub of San Jose.

This is a season for celebrating supernatural miracles and yet miracles are not all supernatural.

One of Merriam-Websters Dictionary definitions of miracles is: ‘An extremely outstanding or unusual event, thing, or accomplishment’ and for most of our clients this would be quite accurate.

There are many who leave Dr. Mario’s clinic feeling that that defines what they have experienced. A miraculous transformation.

It is true these miracles are human inspired and executed yet, in their own way, they are touched by a compassion that is more than flesh and blood.

When one thinks of it like that then it is the artist, in this case the dentist, that is executing more than a technical dental surgical procedure.

They are guided not only by knowledge but by intelligent intuition, their own innate compassion and an inner confidence that transcends just the facts they know. It is a knowledge guided by the sublime because their hands are not  just operating on someone but healing them.

There is a touch of the divine in that and this year we began, in partnership with a local church, to identify boys and girls, men and women, who have lived a life crippled by poor dental health that has afflicted and humiliated them.

As I have walked through downtown San Jose, especially when I go the Central Market, I see the grim faces of those, young and old, who did not have the attention and care we take for granted.

This is what serves as the inspiration to have the church reach out and identify those for whom we can radically transform their futures. What once was a hideous and ruinous demeanor is transformed into a smile that will win a girls or boys heart or open the door for a job that has a future beyond digging holes or prostituting themselves.

Yes, we have all the state-of-the-art technical equipment that money can buy. Yes, we have the best and the brightest doctors,technicians, administrators and support staff.

And yes,we will save you thousands of dollars in dental costs. But more than that. Behind those surgically trained hands schooled by the finest education, skills sharpened by thousands of clients over 22 years, fueled by a desire driven for perfect results…there is a man whose heart is open.

As we approach this new year let our resolutions be not for ourselves but to be resolutely for someone else.
