Hi,
I am thinking of moving to Ciudad Colon for one year to attend the University for Peace. However, I would be coming with my girlfriend (American), and I am worried that she would not be able to find a job down there.
She does have experience teaching English for two years in China, which I assume would be her best bet.
Anybody living in Ciudad Colon have any insight on employment for young non-Spanish speaking Americans down there?
Thanks

The second paragraph states:
“If you are considering working in Costa Rica please search the Discussion Forum and the article before posting your question because this topic has been discussed in depth a zillion times.”
Bottom line?
Your girlfriend has as much chance of working legally in Ciudad Colon as a non-English speaking Costa Rican would have in trying to work in your country while her boyfriend studied there.
In other words, there are very few opportunities and since the average salary is here a fraction of what it is in the US, it doesn’t pay well either…

Although you can apply for a students visa your girlfriend can’t, and this means she will have to leave the country every 90 days.
Bottom Line: No, your girlfriend will not be able to work legally at any job in Costa Rica. That would be prohibited by law.
What she might explore is a job she can do online.
