After a series of emails where one of our recommended attorneys had gone way beyond the call of duty trying really hard to help someone – and certainly way beyond the call of $99 – which was what had been charged for a ‘basic’ title search, I just had to respond so …

Here’s my email to a disgruntled Costa Rica Title Search buyer:

“I can assure you that if this was a normal “title search” it would have been finished a long time ago…

Had you done the same amount of research that most sensible people do before buying something as trivial as a refrigerator – never mind sending tens of thousands of your hard earned dollars to someone you’d just met on Ebay – to buy a plot of land you’ve never seen, in a foreign country where you don’t understand the language or the laws – you would not be in the pickle that you’re in right now….

So, before you get too angry, it’s not the fault of our recommended attorney that you got ripped off so don’t take it out on him….

I have no idea what attorneys charge where you live in Irving, Texas but I can guarantee you that my local dry cleaner in Costa Rica would charge more for his time than what you have been charged so far for the hours and hours of time that Attorney Jose Fernandez has spent investigating your easily avoidable problemito and, it’s certainly worth significantly more than the $99 that you have been charged.

Please also note that as of two minutes ago your US$99 has been refunded so you don’t have to worry about that huge legal expense, especially after “investing” tens of thousands of dollars in land that it turns out you don’t actually own…

Last of all, please do let us know when you find another attorney that is willing to help you with this incredibly complicated transnational legal problem for $99, because we have THOUSANDS of other people that have been ripped off like you – people who were too busy or too foolish to do basic research and invested tens of thousands of dollars in land with some boiler room salesman from Florida who has never ever been to Costa Rica – who we can recommend to them..

Best wishes…

Scott Oliver.”

Some of you may think me somewhat harsh with this response and I hope you’ll forgive me but I have received H-U-N-D-R-E-D-S and H-U-N-D-R-E-D-S of emails from people who have been ripped off and 99% of these rip-off could have been easily avoided…
