Six of us went out on Saturday evening for dinner to La Masia Spanish restaurant to celebrate the birthday of a dear friend.

Located in Plaza Tempo – which is the office center next door to Hospital CIMA – in Escazu just 50M from the main East-West highway.

La Masia (the best English translation is ‘the farmhouse’) is a genuine Spanish restaurant. When I say ‘Spanish’ I mean a traditional restaurant and menu that you would expect to find in Spain and not in Costa Rica.

Our good friend José selected a number of small plates (entrantes) to snack on and then for the main course, we thoroughly enjoyed the slow-cooked cochinillo (pork) and cabrito (goat) dishes washed down with a few bottles of Spanish red wine.

Service was excellent and a full dinner for the six of us with four bottles of wine cost us $341 with a generous tip which is about $57 per head.
