Spacious 6,000 square foot almost new indoor/outdoor living home on 3.5 acres of cool green valley farmland for only US$159,000. Our home is the perfect compliment to the wonderful climate in our sub-region.

The new home, finished in April of 2010 is located on 3.5 acres of fertile mountain and valley view property. We are situated 5 km (3 miles) north of San Isidro de El General.

Quebradas/Miravalles is known as the Escazu of the south because of the high concentration of Northerners: Americans, Canadians, and Europeans, living within the valley under the great rock and the statue of El Santo.

Quebradas is just below the statue in a valley on the InterAmericana Highway just 122kms south of the capital San Jose, about a 2.5 hour drive to San Jose and the airport.

You can get to the international airport SJO in Alajuela through the coastal route which is a little longer (3.5hrs) yet more enjoyable if you want to see the beaches along the way: Dominical, Quepos, Puntarenas, and Jaco then inland through San Ramon.

On our property, we enjoy soft valley breezes and 70 degree weather all year long. From our house you can relax to the tranquil sounds of the water rushing through the Quebradas river, catch a glimpse of a kayak or inner-tube riding down the rapids, or spend hours gazing at the flocks of toucans, parrots, and scores of tropical birds that feed throughout the day in the valley.

Unfortunately for us, the economic downturn drew us out of our early retirement in Costa Rica and back to work in the states. Our plans were to stay and enjoy the peace and climate of our favorite neighborhood in the region so we designed the home to combine the beautiful valley views, the privacy of the hillside, and the terraced lots for growing our own food, and having our horses stay on our property for extended stays from our other farm in the country.

The property is owned in my name. We ask for all offers to include a soft deposit in a licensed Escrow company, E&T Solutions in town can do this for us to assure everyone’s best interest is protected throughout the purchase.

The interior of the single story home measures 2,500 sq ft, it is a 4 bedroom, 3 full baths with tall ceilings in the spacious living room and kitchen opening to the views of the valley. The home was built with the intention of making the whole home wheelchair accessible including details such as the covered patio entrance and the wide doors in the home. See the diagram of the plans.

The covered patio is under the same roof and totals 6,000 sq ft of interior and exterior living space for enjoyment all year round, regardless rain or shine.

In 2009, we hired a well known builder, respected among northerners for his care and quality of workmanship along with an architect and engineer, a father and son pair in town to assist in making the design a strong steel and block construction worthy of withstanding the common tremors in the region.

The home has been upgraded with hot water throughout the house using all polypropylene piping imported from Spain, NO PVC. Although commonly used in home construction, PVC is illegal for use in residential plumbing. It is hazardous in our drinking water due to the heavy metals that leach from the typical PVC pipes.

The home has a covered laundry room with a washer and a 220 dryer. High speed Internet and satellite TV are readily available. Motion sensing flood lights surround the house.

The expansive patio is covered with lots of room for you to hang your hammocks or for meditating, stretching, reading, or just relaxing and watching the birds. If it happens to be raining you can enjoy the feel of being outside without getting wet under the 3500 sq ft of covered patio!

The Quebradas valley and river serve as the main source of water for the town. We have a small spring that feeds into one of the many nearby creeks. On the property are dozens of fruit trees, potatoes, yucca, many different herbs and greens, along with a chicken coup for two dozen chickens that can be used to provide farm fresh eggs.

If you like dogs, you can let them roam within the fenced property or when you’re out keep them connected to runners on steel cables.

Grassy areas surround the house. Children are always entertained running around the yard, kicking the ball, riding their bikes, or chasing the chickens. We have inflatable pools for the kids to enjoy splashing around on warm days.

For anyone who likes to walk, we’ve carved several paths up and around the house, the orchards, and the goat’s enclosure and chicken coops.

At 25 km from Dominical, about a 30 minute drive down the mountain, we are close to the beach but don’t see the crowds or feel the constant heat and humidity. The Manuel Antonio National Park is a little over 1 hour away on the newly paved Costanera Highway.

The booming beach town and beautiful beaches of Uvita and Ojochal are also a bit less than an hour from San Isidro.

The Perez Zeledon region is known for being very safe. Quebradas and Miravalles are a desirable mountain retreat. Our entrance is private and closed to the public by a tall double wooden gate with remote control and automatic operation and a two-way communicator.

If you are concerned about the proximity of medical attention, we are 5km from the 24 hr Urgencias Clinic and the regional hospital is in the center of town. A new modern hospital is in the works in Buenos Aires, a town just 30 mins south of San Isidro.

The FUDEBIOL reserve is about 2km away where you can find white faced capuchin monkeys as well as many varieties of birds, butterflies, and other local wildlife species.

To keep things in perspective of how far yet close we are… there is a McDonalds in San Isidro 5km away, and our SMall (small mall) just opened a TacoBell 15km away.

Dozens of grocery stores can be found in the General Valley, the movie theater in town and hundreds of restaurants/bars, “sodas” marisquerias etc provide a sufficient amount of entertainment and night life for those who crave it.

If you don’t drive, or don’t want to deal with driving around, taxis are abundant and can come to the house, and the bus stop is 100 meters away and only costs around 25 cents to get to town which is a 15 min bus ride down the hill.

The Quebradas Elementary school is within 5 minutes walking distance. One of the most recognized high school’s in the region ‘UNESCO’ is down the road, two k-12 (k-11 no 12th in CR) private schools, Escuela y Colegio del Valle and Asuncion (Catholic) are also great options for parents and their children.

A maid and groundskeeper, who live nearby, maintain the property and animals when we are away and can help you with anything you might need during your stay.

In addition to the great deal on the home, you would be immediately connected to the locals with trusted contacts who can refer you to great local resources for everything including groceries, farming hints, legal services, and trails for riding or other forms of entertainment.

After coming back from a day at the beach or on the mountain you can barbecue or unwind with a campfire under the starlit skies on your own little slice of paradise.
