“My shoes are older than you!” I said jokingly…

That’s how our conversation began when a young video editing professional in San José proudly explained to me how much experience he had.

He’s 27 years old!

When I bought my first pair of Allen Edmonds shoes in New York City, I was about 26 years old.

A few months before that, my wife had taken me along to a small shoe store in Lower Manhattan because they had a good selection of formal shoes on sale.

As a young married couple, naturally she wanted me to save money but, as it turned out, the selection was good, the shoes were not.

They were extremely uncomfortable and after only about ten days wearing them, they were given to charity …

It was a very expensive and painful way to try and save money!

A few weeks later I walked past a store on Fifth Avenue (I ‘think’ that’s where it was) that sold Allen Edmonds shoes.

To be honest, at the time the price of the shoes terrified me but remembering my father’s advice about buying quality products that last, I walked in, tried on a pair helped by well-trained and professional staff and I bit the bullet and bought my first pair.

29 years later, I am still wearing those Allen Edmonds shoes, I’ve bought many more since then and I still wear them.

At approximately $10 per year, Allen Edmonds shoes have to be the cheapest, best made and most elegant shoes in the world!

Sure they’ve been resoled a few times, they’ve walked hundreds of miles in all sorts of weather in a dozen different countries, they’ve been in high-powered business meetings, they’ve even been in the swimming pool with me but, they’re all still in fantastic condition.

If Allen Edmonds ever goes into the cosmetic surgery field, this tanned, wrinkled, leather like face of mine will be the first one in the door because I know my face should still look great in 29 years!
