Despite economic uncertainty, the JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort opened its doors for business, as planned, on December 1st. The project took about two years to complete and is welcome news to the local tourism and government leaders.

There are only 34 JW Marriott hotels located in 15 countries throughout the world. The JW Marriott resort at Hacienda Pinilla is the first resort, of this brand, built in Central and South America. It is located just 15 minutes north of Tamarindo Beach on the “Gold Coast” of Guanacaste.

The developer behind this lavish resort is Grupo Roble, an El Salvador based company with a reputation for being the leaders in Central America. They are the largest developer and privately owned company in the region.

Several area Realtors were invited to attend a private Open House event to preview the 5 star resort within the 4,500 acre Hacienda Pinilla golf and beach community. We were greeted by friendly staff, great scenery, and even better food. Our tour began on golf carts, as we toured a portion of the community. We were then loaded onto a luxury tour bus and taken to the entrance of the JW Marriott.

We left the bus and were given a personal tour by the staff of the resort. “Wow!” Really doesn’t even sum it up! The resort itself was quite impressive and consists of 310 guest rooms, 25,000 square feet of free form pools, a world-class spa, gym, restaurants, conference rooms and business center. The hotel keeps with a Spanish colonial design which mimics the current villas and homes that are built inside Hacienda Pinilla.

Every detail, down to the light fixtures and period tile work, fits perfectly within this theme. The hotel is right on the ocean and offers some magnificent views. You can hear the waves crash from the super secluded Mansita Beach from most of the hotel property. Since the hotel is built within an already established community, there is a Mike Young designed 18-hole golf course for the guests to use. It is located only 1 km from the hotel entrance and the guests enjoy discounted green fees.

There is also an equestrian center, tennis, ponds, lakes and mangroves within Hacienda Pinilla. With so much to do, I can’t imagine ever being bored. This is the true definition of pura vida!

The selection of restaurants, which are open to the public, is great and the food is excellent. The Realtors only got a small preview, but I would highly recommend trying at least one of the restaurants. They have food for any taste–from Asian fusion to Mediterranean. I gave the presentation an A+.

Currently the hotel is offering rooms from $299 per night and up. I was told the hotel is booked through March of this year. Hacienda Pinilla Community offers lots, homes and private villas from the $200K to $2 Million price range.
