ParticipantWas you birth registered in Costa Rica?
Jean, if not,I don’t think that you can get legal residency based on your mothers citizenship if you are over 25… even if you feel it!
Good luckcostaricafinca
ParticipantIf you are under the age of 25 this can be accomplished and have all the necessary paperwork,

ParticipantNo ‘thrift shops’ but there are pawn shops. Check out ‘craigslist’ Costa Rica for used furnishings.

ParticipantThere was a posting on another forum this past week, from a single mother with sons, 7 and 9, who was has lived and worked in Roatan for 13 years and was asking for similar information on moving here because she couldn’t afford the private education she felt was necessary.
Again, raising children anywhere is getting more expensive, everywherecostaricafinca
ParticipantPlease read the info on this website, Costa Rica Law
It is much more expensive to live here, than it was a few years ago, so also check out the cost of schooling here. It is expensive.costaricafinca
ParticipantPlease do not even consider entering into a sham marriage! What if something happened to you….
Home schooling is illegal in Costa Rica, and even doing that can result in having your children removed from your home.
Of course, there are some that do this, just as there are perpetual tourists.
Again, have you ever been here?costaricafinca
Participantjultes if you haven’t applied for Residency, it is quite possible that you will one day be denied entry. Or even issue you a 5 day visa.
According to an article on amcostarica the new rules will most likely address ‘perpetual tourists’ and may be published on Mon 15th Aprilcostaricafinca
ParticipantYes, I have purchased the calcium supplements available here, and I eat your recommended items, but one can only eat ‘so much’ broccoli 🙄

ParticipantUnfortunately, there is no guarantee that ones health will improve living here.
We are all getting older and our bodies change. Some put on weight because they are no longer working and sit about and of course others may start exercising now they have additional time on their hands.
Getting diabetic medication/supplies has been discussed many times on this forum and others, but unfortunately, most people asking the questions do not let us know what has worked or not worked for them. One important thing to remember that ‘the rules’ could change very quickly and often are not advertised very well.
Every delivery could require the use of a broker, if and when the items are shipped it.
I do know that I wouldn’t live here or recommend that anyone moving here, rely on being able to receive medical supplies through either a shipper or mail. It makes me uneasy to say the least.
I am at the other end of the weight issue, as I keep losing weight…and can’t seem to gain any.
I cannot even get Calcium supplements, which are not necessary to keep me alive…. but is required to increase my bone density for osteoporosis.costaricafinca
ParticipantDownload the passport application, available on line and take it plus the 2 correct sized photos to the Embassy. It takes approx 1 week

Participantmaravilla, we also dig a wide, shallow hole and pile in the leaves, grass cuttings, branches etc and let them partially rot. When the top and outer edges are dry, a fire is set, and the burnt parts/ashes are dug into the remaining ‘stuff’ in the hole and the result is some of the best and quickest compost ever seen!
But, in more residential area a ‘bin’ can be used.
We had the thunder storms and very heavy rain yesterday and lost power.costaricafinca
ParticipantDavid I did write “Consider making your own using a metal oil drum ” 😛
As for for making ‘manure tea…’ my hubby built 2 circular stands both about 6″ tall, but one slightly smaller to fit inside the plastic drum and the other one to raise the drum off the ground. You would place some fresh or dried manure, approx enough to fill a gallon bucket … totally your own choice 😛 …that had been put in a jute sack. The tied sack would rest on the stand and is then covered by water and a top. He put in a ‘tap’ for the liquid to be released after a few weeks.
Then once ready, this would be diluted, with additional water to feed your garden plants.costaricafinca
ParticipantConsider making your own using a metal oil drum ….that’s what we did.
We also have a plastic one, for making ‘manure tea…’ 🙄costaricafinca
ParticipantI am presently ‘researching’ a ground cover which seems to be a variety of Salvia. It grows in terrible soil and in extremely dry conditions and even so, produces beautiful tiny blue blossoms … although you may have to lie on the ground to enjoy them: lol:
You can see how small/low to the grown this plant is in contrast to the garden hose and comes back after being cut by a lawnmower.
