It’s the first thing you take and the last thing you will do before you die…

Take a breath!

Most people take these simple, automatic biological functions for granted but, the simplest things can change your life.

The expression: “Nothing really worthwhile ever comes easy in life?” also applies to meditation but the benefits are truly mind blowing and life-changing and, it doesn’t cost a dime.

I first started meditating in the late 80’s and it took me some time trying different methods before before making any progress.

I tried staring into candle flames, had a selection of different music, Tibetan and Indian chants and others, I tried humming, mantras, Holotropic breathwork and had some great experiences sitting cross-legged in a bathtub half-filled with cold water in my tiny apartment on West 72nd Street in Manhattan.

And then I fell in love with my breath…

What is meditation exactly?

The easiest way I can think of describing meditation is the moment when you can rest in that silent empty space between your thoughts.

You know when you’ve been thinking of one thing and sometimes there’s a tiny space before the next crazy idea jumps into your brain?

That space or gap as some people call it is where we want to be and for me the easiest way to try and develop the capacity to stay and remain in that state was by being totally aware of my breathing.

It will take some time but after a few weeks of practice, one day you will exhale and just before inhaling again you will experience that gap!

It’s in this gap where where you find joy, total peace and infinite love.

After a while you may accidentally tap into that universal consciousness and discover that you can connect with practically any living organism – other humans, animals, insects and even other life forms – your life will never be the same and you will be much happier because of it …

Yeah! So now you’re thinking that I’ve spent too long in the sun and “Holy Smokes that Brit is mad as a hatter!” but, others who do meditate are saying: “Right on! Been there, done that and luvvit!”

So what are you waiting for, don’t just do something, sit there!
