Also public transportation will be down to a minimum, especially on Good Friday. It’s time to enjoy being with your family, for barbecues, dancing, socializing and of course the occasional drink! The typical Tico family will probably eat a lot of sardines, tuna fish and other seafood, empanadas de chiverri, tamales de papa y frijol and biscochos.

The shopping is done and more booze is sold the week before Semana Santa than any other week during the year because A: It’s ‘party-time’ and B: The stores are not allowed by law to sell alcohol during the actual Holy Week.
