In September I was visiting family and friends in Scotland and England I can’t help but reflect on what we expats miss when we
leave our homes and explore other lands.

I’ve been an ‘expat’ in ten different countries for 38 of my 56 years but being Scottish born, I feel more at ‘home’ in Scotland however, even though Scotland is stunningly beautiful, I don’t miss the weather!

It’s amusing because as a child at boarding school in Crieff, we were forced to have cold baths every single morning (that’s COLD water in the North of Scotland and not Costa Rican ‘cold’ water) and we regularly had to break a layer of ice in the swimming pool before we jumped in…

I kid you not!

It was spartan and it certainly made us tougher but, the thought of doing that now after 17 years in the Costa Rica sun?

Yeeeeeech! No gracias!

Which brings me to my question…

What’s the perfect Costa Rica weather worth to you?

Forget your friends and family for a moment and imagine that you had a cool $1 million with which to buy a new home.

You had to choose between a place which had a climate like Scotland, with cold, grey and very changeable weather every day for most of the year.

Or, you could choose the exact same kind of luxury home in Costa Rica even though you would be unable to buy haggis potato chips!

Please also try to forget the fact that property taxes are very low in Costa Rica and we also never need heating or cold baths but …

How much extra as a percentage would you be willing to pay to have the wonderful sunny weather we have all year round in Costa Rica?

Even though you can’t buy real haggis or Ardbeg and Lagavulin (my favourite Scotches) in Costa Rica…

Would you be willing to pay 10% extra for the great weather?

20% more?

50% more?

100 more?

How much is perfect weather worth to you exactly?

Please let me know using the survey below:

And yeah! I’m exaggerating a wee bit. The weather for my recent trip to the UK was for the most part absolutely fabulous!
