There’s something to be said for supporting young local artistic talent. Through a collaboration with the Hidden Garden Art Gallery, we are fortunate to have the work of Nathan Miller on display and available for sale in our real estate office.

Drawn to nature in his youth, artist Nathan Miller surrounded himself with animals and had childhood dreams of being a marine biologist or maybe even a zookeeper! His earlier drawings showed his passion from nature to animals and even to dinosaurs.

Miller gravitated toward all of them constantly drawing and sketching. His travels and education in Israel and the African city of Nairobi in Kenya brought new and exciting depth to his world of art during his teenage years.

Following his travels, his focus turned to graphic design where he furthered his education and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Florida.

While travelling extensively throughout the world, Nathan was constantly drawn to African themes in his art. His paintings and sculptures were almost always of stylized African figures. It wasn’t until his move to Costa Rica that he experienced a new shift in focus and style incorporating the wildlife of this fabulous Central American country.

People are drawn to this wonderful country of Costa Rica because of its beauty and the overall philosophy of preservation and green initiatives. Nathan said that he didn’t know how any artists could live in Costa Rica without being inspired to capture such beauty in their works.

Thrilled with his relocation to Costa Rica, he has discovered a land with howling monkeys in the trees and hummingbirds flitting from flower to flower, where you discover clean oceans and perfect waves, so that every day makes him feel extremely fortunate to see and hear things in their natural habitat.

“I feel like, in some ways, we are now working together” comments Nathan in a recent interview.

We are so proud of Nathan. In 2012 he entered a national art competition sponsored by the Fundación Fundadeico. The purpose of the competition was to create a painting that addressed the issue of deforestation in Costa Rica.

He entered his very special work called “Edge of Paradise” and won first place. In this piece, Nathan illustrated deforestation being done to the land when he added the shadow of the backhoe, with the animals looking on as their homes and environment were being destroyed.

Nathan’s original artwork is available for sale through our Ocean Village real estate office and the Hidden Garden Art Gallery, as well as open edition high-quality giclée prints on canvas. The prints are available in three different sizes ranging from $200 to $400.
