Costa Rica Mountain Vacation Home for Only US$60K - $30K down and assume a $30K mortgage. THIS HOME HAS BEEN SOLD

This past weekend, you would have found me visiting a cozy, (acogedora) two bedroom Costa Rica log cabin on the side of a mountain about seventy minutes south of San Jose.

Costa Rica Log Cabin for Only US$60K - All living room furniture is included

This Costa Rica log home is in a stunningly beautiful, completely natural and unspoiled area with great mountain views, 2,200 square meters of land and lots of fresh air with a protected forest, rabbits, cows, woodpeckers and owls for her neighbors...

One of the neighbors - The bare shanked screech owl

The home is located near Santa Maria de Dota (famous for it's coffee) which is at an altitude of about 1,950M (6,398 feet). The property is only fifteen minutes from Empalme where you will find local stores selling great-tasting, fresh local produce.

Empalme is also the junction where you will find the the main highway that goes from San Jose all the way to Panama. From Empalme to the MegaSuper supermarket is only 30 minutes away and it's about one hour to the big malls on the east side of San Jose.

As is usual for Costa Rica the days are filled with bright, clear and sunny skies with temperatures in the high 70's and I foolishly managed to get quite burned in the piercing sun sitting on the ground, admiring the views and speaking with the owner of the property about his land in the countryside (campo)

At night-time, since it's higher, the normal temperature will be about 15 degrees centigrade (59 degrees fahrenheit) and rarely cooler than 10 degrees centigrade (50 degrees fahrenheit)

You will need a good 4x4 vehicle with good tyres to be able to get around here, a good 4x4 is not 'optional', this is a requirement especially in the rainy season when the ground can become very wet... And for five days in the week, you may not see anybody at all, although at weekends you may.

Although there are a couple of nice vacation homes in this private and gated development, the people that live locally are very humble people who live in very humble homes and none of them speak English. They do however make excellent guardians of your property should you travel and hiring one to help you do the gardening etc., will cost you less than $2 per hour

Perfect for a quiet evening with a roaring, crackling fireplace, a glass of Chilean cabernet sauvignon and a good book..

Your roaring fireplace on Saturday night?

The owner bought the 2,200 square metres (23,673 square feet) of land and the 115 square metres (1,237 square feet) cabin about 18 months ago and has since spent about $10,000 to buy her rustic furniture imported from Colombia, had other items made to order by local craftsmen and furnished it with her favorite accessories. Much of the furniture (except the main bedroom) is included in the sales price.

Room To Grow: There is room to expand the home to the left and to the right and it would not be difficult to double the size of the home and there are people locally with experience who would be able to do this for you for about $400 per square metre.

Nobody can build to the rear (which is steep), left or right of you which is flat (except you) because it's your land. It is possible that the neighbor in front of you could build something but it is A: It is impossible that this would interrupt your view and B: The neighbour has assured us that he has no desire to build. C: This area only appeals to the very few people that genuinely enjoy peace, quiet, solitude and Mother Nature.

Your Property Taxes? Less than $100 per year...

Please note that there is no washer and dryer so if you wanted to add those appliances, you would need to factor in those costs...

However, this type of environment is not for everyone because it is very, very quiet here.

This home has a telephone landline and reliable and affordable electricity service is in place. The water supply is fine and you'll be pleased to know that your cellular telephone will work perfectly.

Please note that you will definitely need a four wheel drive car to reach this cabin in the rainy season. You will get down the mountain easily enough but, getting back up that mountain without a 4X4 during the rainy season? I don't think so...

For the owner, escaping from the stress of Costa Rica living in the suburbs of San Jose to a Costa Rica log cabin on the side of a mountain at the weekend is a welcome change...

The view from the terrace.... Sigh!
