Costa Rica train on tracks again
Starting the third week in September, the Costa Rican Railway Institute will operate 13 daily passenger trains between Pavas, west of the city, to Montes de Oca, in the east, with 10 stops. This, which would be the first stage of the revamping of Costa Rican railroads, is aimed at easing transportation and lowering traffic jams in San Jose, that result mainly by the large number of buses operating in the city. The 61-minute ride would take one third of the time less than in buses, at approximately the same cost. The train service is hailed as one of the key factors to fend off the increasing cost of oil and to lower pollution, among other benefits.
