Costa Rica Land For Sale By Owner in Turrialba - Have your own 1,500 square foot home built on two acres of land in a coffee plantation for less than $140,000
Scott Oliver - October 2008
Two years ago my friends David and Marcia Rushton bought a 22 acre coffee farm near Turrialba and built a house for their retirement. The mountain views were magnificent. There was no traffic, pollution, noise or crime - nothing but peace and quiet and fresh air. The only drawback was that they had no English speaking neighbors so they decided to divide the property into nine parcels and offer home sites with two to three acres each to others who crave the peace of this lovely property with its streams, waterfalls, and trees.

It was a slow start but eventually the house and two other parcels sold in the space of one week. Later other lots sold and now they have only three left. David is seeing five or six inquiries each week for the remaining lots and feels sure that all of them will be sold by the end of the year. He is about to buy a similar sized piece of property adjacent to Marcia's Paradise and will have another six to eight lots available very soon. And after that he has plans for two more similar properties which would give a total of about twenty home sites in a kind of village atmosphere with privacy - yet company when you want it.

As you can see, this is one of the many gorgeous 'Switzerland' like areas that is nowhere near overdeveloped.

These sites are a great investment opportunity but for those wanting to build in the near future David has a plan. He will introduce clients to one of the best architects in the country (a professor of architecture in fact) and a fine quality builder who knows how to build for North Americans. Then, if needed David will check the work twice a week and send photos and reports to the owner. A good quality North American style home can be built in this area for about $65 per square foot, far better than the price in the Central Valley.

The predominant comment from those who visit David and Marcia is: "I can't believe how quiet and peaceful it is here." Indeed, all you hear most of the time is the singing of many different species of birds and the sound of a waterfall on the property and the mighty Revantazon River as it crashes over the rocks in the valley far below. You might hear two or three cars or trucks each day on the public road outside the electronic gate of the property. Other than that it's the sounds of nature, and every lot has a perfect view of the Turrialba Mountains with no power lines to spoil the wonder of it.

Beautiful deserted pathways for long walks with your loved one and your four legged friend.

Marcia's Paradise is about thirty minutes beyond Turrialba. From the property you can be in San Jose in ninety minutes on an excellent road (the first 3 kilometers are unpaved but still good by Costa Rican standards). Turrialba has six or seven supermarkets, some good quality hotels and restaurants and many tourist attractions which David will tell you about. There is also a hospital a new state of the art clinic and one of the best dental clinics in the country.
