Costa Rica's Premier New Golf & Ocean Resort in Esterillos Oeste

In our quest to find the best real estate projects in Costa Rica built by experienced developers with a proven track record of delivering quality real estate, we visit many different projects, and it's often heart breaking seeing a gorgeous location ruined by some amateur developer slicing and dicing beautiful lots of land without having much of an idea about anything...

So I get a special thrill when I meet up with real estate professionals who have decades of experience and who genuinely care about their project, the geographical location where they are building and most importantly, the people that are affected by their development.

Clearing the land and forming the roads started on 11th January 2008

In early March 2008, I drove down to meet with Aaron Dowd Sr. and his son Aaron Dowd Jr. to take a close look at the magnificent 450 acre ocean golf resort which they have just begun developing in Esterillos Oeste on the Central Pacific coast just 15 minutes south of Jaco. I had met Aaron Dowd Jr., previously but felt it would be more prudent to wait before writing about their project while they went about the long and arduous process of applying for and received approvals for their project.

Aaron Dowd Sr, has been developing real estate for over forty years, he has been featured as 'Best Developer in Central Florida' when he was involved with an 1,800 acre Metrowest with 7,000 residences and a championship Robert Trent golf course and he lives in one of the communities that he built.

After going through the long process of obtaining all the necessary permits, they began clearing the land and forming the roads on 11th January 2008 to install superior infrastructure, with all underground utilities and three sewer treatment plants. The cost of this infrastructure in the first phase alone will be over US$6,000,000

The homes will be nestled in the jungle with golf course views. There will be spectacular ocean views from the condos.

This luxury oceanfront community is a 450 acre private oceanfront golf course community located in the quaint fishing village of Esterillos Oeste along the Central Pacific coast of Costa Rica, only 15 minutes south of Jaco Beach.

The only words that even begin to describe Cabo Caletas are words such as impressive, detailed and stunningly beautiful, as this oceanfront property is a series of rolling hills offering a wide variety of ocean and mountain views as the golf course weaves through the natural terrain.

When visiting the site and seeing the construction underway, it is very clear to see the level of detail and environmental integrity the designers had in mind when creating this master plan.

After years of reforestation, once the project is completed, the building footprint will be only 15% leaving the majority of the land in a natural state.

As we toured the future golf course, designed by McCumber Golf and opening in 2010, it was very easy to understand why this course is going to be on a different level than any existing course in Costa Rica and even Latin America.

It is the type that you cannot wait to play over and over again, offering a mixture of ocean and mountain views, wildlife sightings and large, mature trees outlining the fairways.

There are several golf holes which will offer tremendous views and elevation changes, using the natural characteristics of the property to enhance the overall golfing experience. Imagine hitting a drive off of a plateau tee perched above the ocean with waves crashing below as you hit a 280 yard drive towards the majestic mountains. This will certainly be one of the finest golf courses around once completed in 2010.

Road clearing began in January 2008

The main roads and infrastructure which are currently under construction will be a series of brick paved and landscaped roads with several rotundas, fountains and wide medians will make driving through Cabo Caletas a joy as one can see several golf holes throughout.

All utilities are underground and the community will have three separate sewer treatment plants as the developers decided not to allow any septic tanks on site.

This will be the sunrise view from the condos when finished.
