Come Celebrate With Us On 15th February 2008! The birth of Scotland's most famous son Robert Burns.

Who?

The famous Scottish poet Robert Burns was born 248 years ago at Alloway, near Ayr in Scotland on the 25th January 1759 and on the 15th February 2007, people in Costa Rica can celebrate .

The first recorded Burns celebration was held in July 1801 on the anniversary of his Death comprising a group of friends and acquaintances. Later the date was to change to the evening of the anniversary of his Birth (25th January) and would become "Burns Night" with the focal point being the "Burns Supper"

A Burns Supper is one of the most celebrated events in the Scottish cultural calendar, not just in Scotland but throughout the world. The true Burns Supper follows a common agenda, specific to the celebration of the life, works & cultural heritage of Robert Burns.

The main objective of a Burns Supper therefore is to celebrate the memory of Robert Burns and the Scottish heritage.

What's It All About? The following is a broad list of the key elements of a Burns Supper:

1) Fun loving guests! 2) A traditional Burns Supper menu 3) A Chairman or Chairwoman 4) Speakers:

Where there is the Address to the Haggis The Immortal Memory A Toast to the Lassies (From the men to our women) A Reply from the Lassies (From the women to their men)

5) Entertainers:

Piper (or appropriate music) Recitals of Burns poetry Singers - ballads & songs of Burns Musicians - playing traditional Scottish music

If drinking good Scotch, eating haggis, enjoying live Celtic music, dancing and generally making a complete fool of ourselves sounds like something you would be interested in then this event is for you.

Some Bagpipe Jokes Please!

A guy walks into a bar and announces "I have a great new bagpipe joke!" The bartender says "Let me stop you right there son. You see that karate black belt hanging up behind the bar? That's mine. And I play the pipes.

See that ornery lookin' feller in the Harley t-shirt? That's my brother - and he plays the pipes. And that big ugly old guy in the corner with the big scar across his face? That's my Paw - and he's a piper. Now, are you sure you wanna tell that joke in here?"

"Hell, no! Not if I'm gonna hafta explain it three times!"

And finally ....

Q: How do you get two bagpipes to play a perfect unison?
A: Shoot one.
