Deborah (Tao) Cain Watts has lived in Costa Rica for 17 years, is a Legal Permanent Resident and has worked as a Costa Rica Realtor with her Legal Partner, Alicia Gonzales Chavez for 15 years, five of which with her own firm.
Tao has an 11 year old son, lives in Puerto Jimenez on the Osa Peninsula and covers the Southern Zone. Tao works closely with Costa Rican attorney and does a lot of translation work, so she is probably more familiar with Costa Rica real estate laws than most people who call themselves Realtors. She was "mentored" by the original real estate brokers in the Osa Peninsula.
Tao Watts specializes in conservation type real estate with retreats, eco-villages and sustainable micro-project developments. With her legal partner they are able to offer legal services, or other attorney contacts, including incorporation, titling, and municipal issues, also property management, sustainable building consultation, conservation and reforesting consultation and networking both locally and internationally.
Tao also assists her clients with project management, translations and helps them become comfortable in the local community. She believes that; "The best way to save the rain forest is to own it," that "Happy clients make good neighbors" and is emphatic about her conviction that "Mega development is NOT compatible with conservation. Period."

Costa Rica Realtor - Tao Watts on the Osa Peninsula: Tao Watts has a background in the Healing Arts and Alternative Lifestyle, as well as many years in the small lodge hospitality industry. She's lived and worked in Osa Peninsula, and participated as a member of the community for many years.
We asked Tao what was her favorite quotation? "Your purpose is always about giving, loving, and serving in some capacity." Dr.Wayne Dyer
As far as the local real estate market was concerned, Tao stated that in her experience: "Prices in Costa Rica are somewhat capricious, and are largely based on speculation. However, in Osa, property prices are generally lower per square meter than in other resort oriented communities.
This is largely due to lack of infrastructure, including lack of proper zoning. It is still a frontier market, though the prices are no longer the fantastic deals they were only a few years ago. The secret is out, and sellers are demanding more every few months, trying to keep up with the inflation and believing the false rumors of developments which would drive property values up."
What makes you uniquely qualified to help your customers? "I am fluent not only in Spanish, but in Tico Culture. I am involved proactively in my community and am well known and accepted. I am not a new comer trying to cash in on a frontier market.
I have many contacts nationwide who can assist in various project types, including builders, permaculturists, architects, topographers, and attorneys, as well as specialists, such as conservation easement legal assistance, and more."
