Construction in the Garabito area (where Jaco is located) has increased by 500% in the last three years with titled land and proximity to San Jose attracting investors.

In 2004 beach front land in Jaco was selling for $300 per square meter, today Jaco beach front would cost you US$2,000 per square meter.

Luis Fernando Villalobos, the mayor of Garabito estimates that between now and the middle of next year that we'll see 1,000 new apartments in Jaco.

However, from the conversations that I have had with developers in the area, I would suggest that he is very low with his estimates and that the real number is considerably higher.

Villalobos adds that 20 condominium and hotel projects are going up in towers of between 8 to 15 floors and depending on the location, the size and the furnishings the price of each apartment ranges from c73,000,000 - c624,000,000 or US$141,000 - US$1,200,000

One of the engines behind the growth in Jaco is because the land is titled and not concession as it is most other ares of the country and Jaco is less than two hours from the internationbal airport in San José.
