Costa Rica recently took home the honor of the 2014 Golf Destination of the Year Award for Latin America & Caribbean. Ranked among 21 countries in the region, Costa Rica was awarded the prestigious award from the International Association of Golf Tour Operators.

IAGTO is a global trade organization comprised of more than 2,100 companies from around the world. More than 500 specialist golf tour operator members vote on the Golf Destination and Golf Resort awards.

Criteria used for evaluating the award include quality of golf courses, customer satisfaction, accommodation, support from suppliers, value for money, professional conduct of suppliers, tourist boards, and tee time accessibility.

In total, Costa Rica is home to 12 world-class golf courses, including courses that have been designed by renowned architects Robert Trent Jones II and Ted Robinson. Among those notable courses is the par-72 championship La Iguana Golf Course, which is located along the central Pacific coast, as well as the course at the Reserva Conchal Golf Club located in Guancaste province.
