A local developer by the name of Alejandro Berkowitz (behind the Mar Vista project) generously donated a 5 acre piece of land that is part of his development located in the town of Brasilito.

Because of this donation of land, the La Paz Board of Directors, unanimously agreed to break ground on the construction of the new La Paz facilities. The new facilities will boast over 15,000 square feet of space with classrooms, office space, and labs.

This will help La Paz in their goal to become the first school in Guanacaste to be accredited by the world renowned IB (International Baccalaureate) program.

The new campus will have space for almost 300 students (current enrolment is at 145 students). The scholarship program, which is one of the main goals of the school, will also increase to give area students who qualify a chance to attend the La Paz Community School.

The current campus, which is owned by Don Ruetz, has offered to renew the lease so that the pre-school and primary school program can continue to succeed.

The new campus will integrate historic Guanacaste architecture and will use modern construction systems. The school is aiming for a sustainable design that will use passive cooling techniques and embrace its natural surroundings.

To maximize cost efficiency, the La Paz school has joint ventured with suppliers and builders who work with products manufactured in Costa Rica. All of the companies involved are giving materials at cost and keeping this mission as a non-profit one.

The school is in its final stretch, and has raised over $1 million so far. They are seeking individuals or businesses who would like to donate to this worthy cause, as they seek to raise the additional $680,000 needed to build. This is truly a great vision for the area and will provide a great opportunity for bilingual education to area children from K-12 in our area of Guanacaste.
