The United States is one of the very few countries, and the only major country, that taxes its citizens or permanent residents, no matter where they actually live.

Ridiculous? Yes. But fortunately, the Internal Revenue Code contains an escape clause that allows you to earn up to $97,600/year tax-free (2013, adjusted annually for inflation) if you live and work outside the United States. If your spouse accompanies you overseas, you can double this exemption and jointly earn up to $195,200 annually, free of U.S. income tax obligations. This provision is called the “foreign earned income exclusion” (FEIE).

You can also exclude or deduct some of your housing expenses from your gross income earned abroad. This “foreign housing cost amount” applies to housing expenses paid for by your employer. In most cases, the maximum foreign housing cost amount is $13,664 (2013 limit), although the exclusion or deduction is higher in certain high-cost locations.

Now, in conjunction with our strategic partners, The Nestmann Group, Ltd. has put together an “Offshore Business Package” that gives you everything you need to take advantage of the FEIE. And, if you act in the next 30 days, by June 13, 2013, you’ll save $750!

If you’re a U.S. citizen or green card holder living outside the United States, and also:

  • Self-employed, or
  • A contract employee, or
  • Operating a bona-fide non-U.S. business, or
  • Managing your own investment portfolio

…then you’ll want to take advantage of this outstanding offer.
