While Costa Rica in general is not considered a golfing haven just yet there are still a few fantastic courses worthy of the golf enthusiast’s attention. Around the Tamarindo area there are two golf courses of note which can provide a challenging round for even the most serious of golfers.

About 25 minutes south of Tamarindo is the Hacienda Pinilla golf course. This is a beautiful course that uses its natural surrounds to best effect. Golfers can enjoy the gorgeous blue vista of the Pacific Ocean on one side and the tropical rainforest on the other as the course winds its way around the shores of the coast for an unsurpassed backdrop to an afternoon of golf.

The course designers paid a great deal of respect to the surrounding environment to such a degree that the course has earned the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary seal of approval. The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary is an organization which educates and helps golf courses protect the environment in order to preserve the natural heritage of the area, and maintain habitats for the local wildlife.

As you make your way around the course you will likely enjoy glimpses of the local wildlife as they navigate their way through the treetops or rummage in the undergrowth. Whether you are a seasoned pro or an enthusiastic amateur be sure to spoil yourself with a little tee-time at this unforgettable golf course.

At 25 minutes travelling time north of Tamarindo is the Playa Conchal golf course and resort. Like the Hacienda course golfers are treated to superb views of the Pacific Ocean on a course that is likewise framed by lush tropical rainforests. The Playa Conchal provides a world class experience on a traditional golf course designed by the fabled Robert Trent Jones II.

As golfers make their way around the course they are treated to stunning ocean vistas framed by an azure sky. Players of all skill levels will enjoy the challenges of perfectly placed lakes and strategically located ravines dotted around this 71-par championship level course.

While both of these courses provide an adequate challenge there is also plenty of distractions to be enjoyed after the last hole has been played, with beautiful beaches and fine dining to be enjoyed at either location.
