According to official statistics from the Energy Information Administration the US average price per gallon for 8th November 2010 across the USA is now $2.865 per gallon with prices lower on the east coast than the west coast.

Gas Price Increase in Costa Rica – As of 15th November 2010:

  1. Regular gas is 562 colones per liter = 2,127 colones per gallon (US$4.15)
  2. Super gas is 589 colones per liter = 2,229 colones per gallon (US$4.35) and
  3. Diesel is 508 colones per liter = 1,923 colones per gallon (US$3.75)
  4. LPG is 347 colones per liter = 1,313 colones per gallon (US$2.56)

1 US gallon = 3.78541178 liters and according to the Banco Central de Costa Rica, the current rate of exchange is: Buy: 512.31 and Sell: 521.91

Taxes on Gas:

In Costa Rica, taxes make up about 37.74% of the price for regular gasoline. In the UK taxes make up 75% of the price and only about 19% in the US….

We Should Consider Ourselves Lucky:

So when it comes to gas prices, consider yourselves very lucky if you’re in the USA because even though gas prices in Costa Rica are about 40% higher than they are in the US, if you were living in the UK, you would paying about 150% more.

The average price in the UK is GBP117.7 per litre which is GBP445.54 per gallon which is US$7.16 per gallon for gasoline or, as it’s called in the UK – “petrol”.
