After experiencing many years of painful and less than successful dental work in the U.S., culminating in very expensive and poor quality work at one dentist in Washington, D.C. , I began researching alternatives.

Modern implant technology seemed to be the way for me to go but the prices quoted in the States were beyond the pale. I wanted state of the art techniques with a more caring, people oriented and affordable approach.

Searching through the Internet led me to Costa Rica and Charlie Dennard. Charlie is an English/Spanish speaking ex pat and a ‘dental patient co-ordinator.’

I felt an immediate rapport with Charlie when I first contacted him by phone, and I sensed his sincerity. This proved to be an assessment founded in fact and is why I am submitting this reference.

Based upon the type and extent of dental work contemplated, Charlie recommended Dr. Mario whose excellent clinic is in Escazu, a high-end suburb of San Jose, the population center and capitol of Costa Rica.

Charlie was entrusted to make the initial contacts and arrangements with Dr. Mario who, incidentally, comes from a long line of family dentists. Dr. Mario studied in the U.S. and speaks excellent English, as does many of his very friendly and competent staff.

It was obvious that Charlie interfaced well with everyone and freely shared a wealth of information and helpful insights that were invaluable during my stay both during and after the dental procedures.

Charlie is trustworthy, has practical insights and is knowledgeable over a wide range of topics, and also has interesting friends and contacts. We had a great time watching the World Series – Rangers vs. Cardinals – at an Escazu sports bar owned and operated by friends of his whose employees and patrons are an interesting and eclectic mix of friendly folks.

The food was great and the local Imperial cerveza [beer] is very tasty.

Charlie arranged very satisfactory lodging for me during the dental work, which included 13 extractions and 16 implants. All work was carefully planned, explained and completed by Dr. Mario with maximum efficiency and minimal pain.

The CAT scans necessary before commencing work were performed at the nearby CIMA Hospital medical facility. This high-tech imaging was professionally handled by a friendly technician who spoke excellent English, used state-of-the-art equipment, and evidenced advanced skills and training compared to my experience in D.C. where the cost was much higher, the equipment older, and the technician less skilled.

In fact, it was necessary to repeat the same scans in Costa Rica because the U.S. pictures were inadequate and wholly inferior as a basis for the extensive implant procedures. This was just another example affirming my decision to go to Costa Rica for quality dental care. This same conclusion was echoed by other individuals from all over the globe who were also having dental work done.

On the morning of my surgery, Charlie brought over a tub of ice cream to Ginette’s bed and breakfast, where I was staying; very thoughtful of him. What more can I say – life is good — Pura Vida!

In summation, I saved enough money to pay cash for a new SUV and a great vacation in a beautiful country as well. Yours truly, Terrell M. Tucker in Washington D.C.”

My daughter needs 1 molar implant and plans to visit Costa Rica in August. How many days total should she stay to complete it and approximately how much money? She is 22 and in college in FL so I’m paying. The extraction will be done today, so is there a wait required?
