Costa Rica Pulls in the Accolades for tourism in 2015…
No sooner had we rung in the New Year, it seems that the flood gates had been opened, and the tourist began to flow into the country.
Gerardo and I commented to one another that our little town of Atenas seemed to be crawling with new faces. Not that that is unusual for high season, but there seemed to be more hustle and bustle than normal. Our business too, had a marked increase over January 2014.
In addition to our personal observations, other colleagues and friends from around the country, began to talk about the increase in tourism. Media outlets also begin to report on the topic, showing long lines of tourist at the San Jose International Airport.
Traffic in many popular beach towns has been overwhelming. Hotels and rental properties have been booked for months in advance. If the momentum holds, Costa Rica is set to have a record breaking amount of visitors in 2015.
It is no secret that Costa Rica is a tropical paradise and a top destination for world travelers, but this has been backed up by a dozen publications from prestigious international media that have recognized the country as a unique tourist destination in recent days.
After looking at this impressive list, it becomes clear why Costa Rica continues to become a TOP global travel destination.
Costa Rica was listed as:
- Costa Rica is nominated in the list of the 10 best places for wildlife around the world by the prestigious news media USA Today. Costa Rica is the only place in Central America that was nominated.
- One of the most amazing destinations this year, according to CNN;
- One of the destinations to visit in 2015, according to the British newspaper The Guardian;
- Is in the top ten of the best destinations for adventure in 2015, according to National Geographic.
- The country occupied a full page in the New York Times as one of the most reforested destinations;
- Costa Rica occupies the fifth position as the best-selling destination for Americans in the year 2015, according to the Daily News.
- Costa Rica offers the best holiday experience in the world and is recognized as the most preferred vacation spot, according to the Global Tourism Monitor Survey;
- The ultimate destination to enjoy a family holiday, among the eight best places to travel for families in Central and South America, according to the American magazine U.S. News & World Report;
- In January, Costa Rica was the winning country in the category of Best Destination Central/South America, of the “Readers Choice Award” from Travel Weekly magazine.
