John Richards (originally from Wales) and Sheelagh Richards (originally from Scotland) came to Costa Rica in 2006 after “working very hard for many years.”

They both had the opportunity for an early retirement but “didn’t want to sit back in England and do nothing.”

They had been to Costa Rica four times before and kept coming back because “Costa Rica had everything we enjoyed, the nature, the beautiful countryside, lovely mountains, wonderful rivers and lovely people.”

John and Sheelagh decided that they “wanted to have an adventure with our lives’, that “we’ve been extremely fortunate since we came here” and “have not regretted it for one single minute.”

“The rain is wonderful” and “learning how to garden in the tropics” … “is enormous fun.”

John and Sheelagh wanted nothing to do with the various gated communities that are popping up all over the country because they “value the Costa Rican people” and wanted to “live in a Costa Rica community and develop Costa Rican friends.”

“We feel at home and we feel accepted”, the people are “great people”

John adds that in some respects “you can’t compare this place with England, it’s not as good, England isn’t as it is here” and “petrol is half the price.”
