39 year old Canadian citizen Belkis Depaulo who is serving 8 years in El Buen Pastor (The Good Shepherd) prison in Costa Rica for drug smuggling, tried to escape on Saturday night to be with her children, she said.

Police report that she was spotted lying on the ground near the fence of the prison because of the reflection coming off the face of her watch.

The brand of the watch was not mentioned …

Depaulo was originally captured on the 10th December 2010 with cocaine hidden in her luggage and is due for release on 30th October 2018.

Since her attempted escape, she has been placed in a maximum security cell…

Depaulo’s children will unfortunately have to wait quite a bit longer to see their mother and Depaulo has another six years to come to terms with the decision she made to smuggle drugs in the first place.

I’m guessing that had she been found smuggling drugs into Toronto’s airport, she’d be spending many more years behind bars ….

The FaceBook page for Belkis Depaulo is here but she obviously hasn’t had a chance to update that in a while…

Let’s hope she keeps her nose clean from now on.
