There are only a couple of English language news sources in Costa Rica and I must admit that for the most part, reading them makes me sad!

Sorry but I refuse to provide you with the same old sensational headline crap about the latest bloody, horrific crime that supposedly sells newspapers and magazines

This is NOT to say that we hide the negatives, heck! We even have articles about the negatives amongst the 500+ articles on our site… But, life isn’t all about tragedy and heroes aren’t only found on TV.

Seems to me that most of the real heroes out there are the hard-working people doing the best they can for themselves and their families, working ridiculous hours, having little quality time to spend together, paying ever increasing income and property taxes and absurd amounts in health insurance to try and protect the ones you love.

Nobody writes about them or even think about them… Is this the way it was meant to be?

So here’s a real-life hero story for you…

A new American friend of mine, one of our VIP website members moved to Costa Rica in October with his family. He and his wife are in good health, around 60 years old and their children are in their late 20’s

I had previously introduced them to a trusted, local real estate agent here in Escazu and some other professional contacts.

In under one month, my client has found a home minutes away from a golf course they both love, they have bought a car for themselves and their sons have also bought theirs.

With his sons as partners, they have already agreed on terms to buy and renovate an Escazu restaurant, start an upscale automotive business and a small real estate development company to build a block of apartments.

Phew!

Everywhere you look, there’s some new disaster that we are supposed to be terrified of but, everywhere you look there are also real heroes and true life success stories that I would much prefer to read about…

I’m going to drink a toast (a wee dram of Scottish single malt of course) tonight to my two new American friends B & J.

“Slange Var!” Pronounced Slan-je-varr. (No! That’s not Costa Rican Spanish, that’s Scottish!)
